Fall Collectors' Series

October 4, 2022 - 7 pm

October 18, 2022 - 7 pm

A French anthropologist once said, “Objects are what matter. Only they carry the evidence that throughout the centuries something really happened among human beings.”

Two Baraboo area collectors will present about the objects in their collections in a two-part series in October at the history center. On October 4, Branden Martz of Baraboo, will share part of his antique electric fan collection which he has been building over the last ten years. His passion for mechanical electric appliances comes from his interest in sculptural kinetic art, and its association with the American industrial revolution.  His collection includes fans from the late 1890s through the 1920s.

Two weeks later on October 18, Ted Bueno of rural Baraboo, will share antique bottles from his collection which he started collecting when he was thirteen years old. He began collecting when he saw people digging for bottles in an Edwardian-era garbage dump in Manchester, Connecticut. Bueno’s emphasis is on bottles used for plant-based or botanical medicines such as Dr. Kilmer’s Swamp Root and they range in age from 1840 to 1915.

Both presentations are open to the public and will begin at 7 pm at the history center at 900 Second Avenue in Baraboo.
