At the age of 16, at Delton, Wis., Mr. Rood enlisted in Co. E, 12th Wisconsin infantry. He left with his company in January, 1862, for the front, and served for the duration of the war. After participating in the grand review at Washington in May, 1865, he was mustered out in July, 1865. His mother gave her husband, three sons, and four brothers to the service of their country. All returned except one brother.
In the early 1930s, he wrote numerous first person accounts of his experiences during the Civil War. The articles below, recount those experiences.
